The SAN FRANCISCO AND PACIFIC GLASS COMPANY, at San Francisco, lately completed their extensive improvements and their new furnace was fired up on June 24. The San Francisco glass works were established about ten years ago. At one time they had a rival in the Pacific glass works, but five years ago they bought out the latter company and consolidated the two interests under the name of San Francisco and Pacific Glass Works, King street. The new concern is a stock company, with $100,000 capital, at the head of which, as president, is Carlton Newman. The works on King street cover a lot 225x200 feet, which is crowded with buildings. The old works were capable of turning out seven tons of manufactured glass per day, but with the new additional facilities the total daily capacity will be fourteen tons. They manufacture flasks, bottles, and demijohns of all sizes, the cane for the latter being imported from China. They also manufacture fruit jars. The company have purchased land at the corner of Seventh and Townsend streets, and propose to erect a new additional factory for the production of druggists’ prescription ware, lamp chimneys, fish globes, etc. They employ at present 125 men and boys, and 100 more will be required at the contemplated new factory. The sand used at these works is obtained at Monterey.
