BUSINESS MEMORANDA.

The latest thing for San Francisco is a flint glass factory. C. Newman, president of the San Francisco and Pacific Glass Works, has just returned there from a trip of several months to the east, during which he visited the leading glass manufacturing centers of the east. The result of all is that the furnace for flint glass making will be ready in January, while blowing will commence in February. The factory will turn out everything in the shape of flint or white glass, such as tumblers, lamp shades, chimneys, jelly glasses, druggists’ ware and other articles which may almost be said to be endless in their variety. It is not expected that the factory will pay the first year, on account of the heavy expenses incidental to starting, and the work of training up the hands in their duties, but after the first year it is hoped that it will pay. There will be employment for from 60 to 75 men in this industry, which will add to the wealth and prosperity of San Francisco. Mr. Newman has brought out with him a superintendent who understands the business thoroughly, and preparations for the enterprise will at once be made.
