Booths at the Elks Carnival Make a Rare

Show for Thousands of Visitors Yesterday

— What is to be Seen There.

On every hand yesterday afternoon were heard words of praise for the enterprising merchant, manufacturer and other business men who have made the big exhibit in the industrial department of the carnival.

The patrons start from Midway on a lively walk upon entering the carnival, but soon their pace is checked by the splendor and beauty that catches the eye before a great distance is covered, and one cannot prevent spending the time to make an inspection.

The chief attractions are at Midway but the curiosity satisfied, on the return trip to the exit, the visitors stroll leisurely along and closely inspect each respective booth, stopping at many places to ask questions and minutely inspect the articles displayed. This is evidence that the hard work and expense of the exhibitors has not been for naught, and late last night when the white curtains were drawn over many exhibits there were people on the street carrying through cracks attempting to discover what was within.

It is utterly impossible for a person to make a satisfactory visit on any one trip, regardless of the fact that there are frequent places to loiter, while barrels of cool ice water are at the command of all at frequent intervals, and there will be but few who will not come to the show 2 or more times period the expense is so nominal that this will not interfere in most all cases.

The beauty of the booths is much greater than anyone had anticipated. The merchants and manufacturers are to be thanked and congratulated for the enterprise they have shown and decorating and making the grounds so attractive.

There are constant exclamations of delight from the visitors as they pass from 1 booth to another period Muncie people may justly feel proud that their citizens are able to make such a credible display.

The general appearance of the crowd of attendance is very good. The ladies are most neatly attired in smart shirt waists and either heavy skirts or duck. The grounds are exceptionally clean for such an affair and is not at all heard on one's dresses.

The bands add much to the enjoyment of the constant string of sightseers. Some band is furnishing music continually, and indications are that this state of affairs will exist all week.

A brief description of the booths is as follows:

HEMINGRAY GLASS WORKS

The greatest attraction in the display of The Hemingray Glass Company is the mammoth globe fruit jar blown especially for the exhibit and shown in the parade yesterday. This company makes a specialty of the globe fruit jar patented in May 1886 by Mr. Robert Hemingray the founder of the company. In this booth can be seen these jars in three colors, green, amber and flint. The company has been located in Muncie since 1888 and now mploys [sic] employs a force of men numbering three hundred. The booth is tastefully decorated in pink and blue bunting and the jars are tastefully displayed. In addition the goods on exhibition the company makes a general line of lamp and electrical goods and insulators. The exhibit occupies sixteen feet of space and is one of the most attractive on the street. During the carnival the booth will be in charge of Mr. John Gray, the manager.
