FLINT PLANTS

The Hemingray Factory to Have

A BIG LULL IN TRADE
And Much Stock on Hand Resulting
in Factories Not Being Started Until
Probably Late in the Fall — Extremely
Low Shipments and Men are Advised
to Remain at Rest.
There is a decided lull in the flint glass trade at present. The demand is easily satisfied and manufacturers are awaiting developments. It is the belief that it will be short lived, but it is ample to keep a number of the flint factories idle for some time, according to the present outlook.
The Hemingray factory in this city, which was to have resumed operations Monday morning, will remain idle until next month, and probably longer, with the exception of the continuous tank. The workmen who were prepared to resume work Monday have received notice to the effect that operations will not be resumed on that date, and as yet, no definite date has been decided upon. The cause is the small demand for the product at present, and the coming settlement of prices for the season. The manufacturers have much stock on hand which, at the present rate of consumption, will last for some time, and the plants will not be put in operation as long as the big supply lasts.
Shipments this month have been extremely light both in this and other vicinities. The demand for the product is such as to cause the manufacturers to guess, and it may be that the factories in this and other vicinities will not be in complete operation until late in the fall. The local workmen who were preparing to return to work will remain idle for some time to come. This will cause several thousands of the glassworkers to remain away a longer time than was anticipated. The local plant is in condition for operation but this will not be taken up until later.
