PHILIP M'ABEE

SUED FOR DIVORCE

Well Known Young Business Man, Socially Popular,

Made Defendant at Cleveland — The Echo of a

Romance — Details of the Affair Not Made Public.

Philip W. McAbee, one of the city's most popular young men socially and known to business men as the secretary and treasurer of the Indiana Pipe company, was sued in Cleveland, O., yesterday, for divorce by Mabel Ellen McAbee. The charge of failure to provide is made by the young wife. While Mr. McAbee was commonly supposed here to be a single man, he had told a number of his acquaintances differently and is said not to have made any effort to keep it from being public. McAbee has been unusually popular in the exclusive social circles of Muncie since his arrival here something less than two years ago, and he has entertained elaborately at dinners and dances. He belongs to the city principal clubs.

Mr. McAbee declined to discuss the episode when a newspaper man talked to him over the telephone. "I know little about it," he said. "You know how those things are. I have no statement to make."

A telegram from Cleveland, O., to-day, says that a summons has been sent to Muncie to be served on McAbee. From the same source it is said that the marriage of the McAbees was a rather romantic affair but that the two only lived together a few weeks. It is indicated that Mrs. McAbee is not now in Cleveland and that it is uncertain just where she is.

Both Mr. McAbee and the young woman whom he married are said to belong to very prominent families, whether of Cleveland or elsewhere is unknown, and few details of the unfortunate affair are obtainable in Cleveland. McAbee came to Muncie about two years ago. He is now only about 26 or 27 years old. He is a quite, gentlemanly young man of good manners and is well liked by his acquaintances.
