Failure of a Grand Movement.
Monday last was to have been made famous in the annals of Kentucky politics by a brilliant movement of the Radical managers in the Second Representative District. That the movement failed was owing to a lack of appreciation on the part of the voters of the district. On the eve of the election Maj. Robt. Richardson, the regular nominee of the Radical party for the Legislature, and, we need scarcely add, one of the best known and ablest members of the party, was withdrawn and Maj. James L. Foley put in his place. The name was years agone a tower of strength in political contests in Covington. In this instance it was supposed it would sweep everything before it. Democrats would be paralyzed and voters would impetuously rush in unbroken columns to the polls for the sake of voting for Foley. But, as we have said, the voters of the district didn't appreciate the grand movement. The name had no more influence than that of Wiggles would have had, and so the Radical managers were cheated of the glorious triumph. |
