UNFORTUNATE

Misunderstanding Causes Body of

Ill-fated Carlotta Campiglio To Be

Shipped Through This City.

By reason of misunderstanding and delays en route the body of poor Carlotta Campiglio Hemingray, who committed suicide in San Francisco, reached this city yesterday, instead of being sent direct from San Francisco through Chicago to New York. The remains were unloaded from a Pennsylvania train at 8 o'clock yesterday morning, and a Wells Fargo Express Company driver found the casket among the trunks and other baggage, not one of the officials knew what disposition should be made of it.

William Endress, of San Francisco, came in charge of the remains, and for this reason, it is said, the telegram of Mrs. Campiglio's father, Mr. Goodridge, did not intercept the body at Chicago, as was arranged, for the reason that Mr. Endress's name was not known to the family. Endress called at the Campiglio home, at 636 West Fourth street, but to his surprise, found that Mrs. Campiglio had gone to New York, where the body should have arrived today, but for delays at Chicago and Kansas City. Word had been left with the officials of the Well-Fargo Express Company, however, by the Campiglios, and as soon as the casket was found it was loaded onto a wagon and taken to the C. H. and D. Depot, where at 2 o'clock, it left for New York. The remains were driven past the late home of the beautiful Cincinnati girl on West Fourth street, where a few weeks ago she had lived, and where she had been recipient of attention from many of the wealthy sons of this city and Covington. There were no mourners, and those in the house did not even know that the dead girl had been so near them.
