Capacity Will be Doubled

Denver's curse is the exorbitant freight rate charged by the railroads. There is no way of competing with the railroads. The nearest city, Omaha, Neb., is 600 miles away, and the fairy-like tale that goods can be shipped from New York to San Francisco and back to Salt Lake City, Utah, cheaper than they can be shipped direct to Denver are true. To get around this several moneyed men of that city got together and erected a glass factory, which was incorporated under the name of the Western Glass Mfg. Co. All kinds of glassware were made and the concern prospered. One hundred and fifty men were employed, but about six weeks a fire, originating in the gas generating department, destroyed the plant.

Manager Merritt Gano at once set about having arrangements made for rebuilding, and he has announced that the plant will be built on a larger and grander scale than before, and that when completed 300 men will be employed and the capacity increased to double the size at the time of its destruction.
