Muncie Makes a Good Showing.

A number of interesting facts and figures in regard to the factories of Muncie are disclosed by the 1905 report of State Factory Inspector McAbee, which has just been sent out. There are in Muncie 83 institutions employing hired labor, says the Star, and subject to the inspection laws of the state. These 83 factories employ a total of 5,424 men and women, this figure showing a loss of 389 employees since the 1904 report, although the shortage has probably been made good since the reopening of the American Sheet Steel Co.'s plant.

Of these 5,424 employees, 4,864 are male workers and 560 are females. One hundred and five are males under 16 years of age and 20 are females under the age of 16. The factory in which the largest number of employees is noted is Ball Bros. glass factory, which heads the list with 1,225 employees. Each factory in Muncie averages 66 employees.

Inspector McAbee stated in his report that the sanitary conditions in all the factories were good, none of them being reported for violations of the health law. The rate of accidents was also singularly low, no fatal accidents having happened during 1905. A total of 15 employees were injured, and of these but four were seriously injured.
