Examining Trial of Mary Cross.

The examining trial of Mary Cross, who shot at Mr. Bob Hemingray, as stated in yesterday's COMMONWEALTH, took place in the Mayor's Court this morning. The defendant, a tall, lank, olive colored, vicious-looking negress, made her appearance in Court and insisted upon being heard. She admits to the shooting, and says that she did not want to kill him, that she only wanted to put a few holes into his body.

Mr. Hemingray testified that he lives at No. 618 Garrard street; was coming out of the front gate about 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon when confronted by Mrs. Cross, who stood about from three to five feet away. The first cartridge failed to explode. I started to run, and she fired four or five shots, none of which took effect. The negro said, "I am going to kill you." Immediately after the shooting the police were informed of the affray, and Marshal Goodson and Officer Bolan went to her house and secured the pistol, a small 22 caliber, and arrested her. Major Tom Wise conducted the examination for the Commonwealth, and she was held for the coming term of the Criminal Court, which meets Monday week, and bail fixed at $1,000. The charge is shooting with intent to kill.
