FROM THE CITY OF CHURCHES.
Brooklyn, N. Y., Sept. 10. - After some delay all the factories in this city have resumed operation and the workers are all glad to be in harness again. Demuth's plant, although running one furnace all summer, only worked half time; but is now doing much better and all men employed there expect good working time this coming blast. Both of the Gleason-Tiebout Glass Co.'s plants have resumed operations. The company are running one furnace at Greenpoint and their Maspeth plant is on in full. It was started Sept. 3 and all hands look well after their long vacation. The Fresh Pond plant is doing nicely at this writing. The Williamsburg Flint plant has been in operation for about three weeks and orders seem brisk. A small plant built by John Cook at Ridgewood was destroyed by fire recently. It will not be rebuilt and is a total loss. There is the smile on August Milenberg's face that won't come off. It is a boy. Congratulations. E. Foreman, Louis Cadley, (our sailor) David Smith, Swayne, Lilja, Seidlinger and Kennedy are back at their old stand. M. Reardon and T. E. Sigward are still side partners at the gloryhole, having as gatherers R. Overend and Casper Winkler. Chas. Falk and J. Doyle are still busy at politics and have made some good points in their arguments so far. At the last regular meeting of L. U. No. 1, the following officers were elected for the ensuing term: Walter Matters, president; H. Shaw, vice president; A. J. Brown, financial secretary; W. Jones, recording secretary; J. Schutta, corresponding secretary; A. Latourness, treasurer; A. Deitz, inside guard. - Sea View. |
