Smoker and Social Season.

Denver, Col., April 20.-- I have seen a number of reports in the Commoner and Glassworker about smokers held by the workers and I just want to let the rank and file know about the old mountaineers of Denver. Well we held a little smoker here recently and we think it could not be beaten, especially from the standpoint of sociability. We were sorry we could not have some of our national officers here to give us a talk, but we have a brother here that we feel proud of as a speaker. His talk on the efforts of organized labor was very much appreciated by all. He also acted as toastmaster in a very able manner. Good luck to you, Roberts.

We also gave a very good entertainment, having engaged some of the best vaudeville performers in the city to take part. In addition we have some good talent in our branch. Bro. Mark sang "I want a man with the dough" which proved to be a great hit. Bro. Folk sang "The girl that can't forget you and the girl you can't forget," and brought down the house. We also had songs by Bros. Myers, Boston, Walt and Kearns, which were well received. Covers were spread for one hundred. One of the best orchestras in the city was on hand. Every one present voted the entire affair a grand success.

We are sorry to inform the trade that the Western Glass Co. closed down their plant this month for the rest of the season but we have had a good season's work, not losing one single day since the first of September. Our manager, S. Modes, is up to date in the glass business. He keeps everything in good shape and is "on the job" all the time. He is sorry he can't keep us going the rest of the fire.

All the workers have secured places for the rest of the fire, Bros. Kerns, Wolf, Johnson, Halford, Fitzgerald and Bernsides are going to Seattle; Limberger, Short, Gottlob and Folk to St. Louis, and Boston, Applegust and Roberts to 'Frisco. All the boys that want to leave have some place to go. --Mountaineer.
