GENERAL TRADE CONDITIONS REVIEWED.

At the conference held recently in Toledo, O., by manufacturers and workers representing the off-hand lamp chimney branch of the trade, it was decided to continue the sliding scale system of working with some slight modifications. The conference lasted several days and was attended by representatives from nearly every chimney producing section in the United States. A great amount of interest was manifested in the proceedings in every section where this line of ware is manufactured. The conference was harmonious in character and many pertinent points were brought out during the different sessions.

Five Weeks Summer Stop.

Representatives of the electric bulb department held a conference in the Stevenson building, Pittsburg, last Wednesday, Edward J. Barry, of the Libbey Glass Co., acting as chairman and Messrs. Kunzler and Clarke noting the proceedings for the manufacturers and workers respectively. A plan to simplify the electric bulb list was adopted after some deliberation. An important feature of the meeting was the adoption of a resolution to the effect that a five weeks summer stop will be observed this year by the bulb department. The conference adjourned Wednesday evening. Jas. Goggins, Edward Kaye, and Thos. McCreary represented the manufacturers, while Thos. C. Devine and Geo. Simpson looked after the interests of the workers.

The result of the recent election of members to serve on the executive board of the American Flint Glass Workers' Union was as follows:

General Flint Trade Conditions.

Trade affairs in the flint glass branch are rather quite at present. However, most of the concerns devoted to the manufacture of table and general flint glassware are operating their plants either in full or in part, comparatively few being closed down entirely. Preparations are now being made by a number of manufacturers to arrange for turning out lines that will be in demand when the fruit crop begins to materialize. The electric bulb business has fallen off to some extent lately. Indications point to a better demand for bar glassware during the next two months.
