Prominent Flint Glass Worker Dead.


Muncie, Ind., Aug. 19. — Jas. S. Burke, aged 40 years, died in a hospital at Medina, N. Y., last Friday. His death was due to pneumonia contracted in a fishing camp, where he had been spending his vacation together with several other Lockport glassworkers. The funeral took place from St. Lawrence's Catholic church, Muncie, Ind., and interment was made in Beechgrove cemetery.

Burke was well and favorably known in the flint glass trade, having served several years on the executive board. He was born at Bellaire, O., learned the glass trade at Tarentum, Pa., and had worked in numerous factories throughout the country.

Besides a widow the deceased is survived by his mother, who lives at West Point, Neb., and three brothers, Daniel, the well known Alton, Ill., presser; John, of Omaha, and Patrick, of the City of Mexico.

Daniel Burke, of Alton, was in Muncie to attend the funeral of his brother.

It is authoritatively stated that Hemingrays will start two furnaces on insulators early in September. — Progress.
