· · At Muncie and Other Points. The bottle manufacturing plant of Muncie Glass Co., Muncie, Ind., formerly the Chas. Boldt works, is again being operated with members of the A. F. G. W. U. The large machine tank was started Thursday of last week under the management of Thomas Morris, who formerly had charge of the night forces at the Cincinnati enterprise of the Chas. Boldt Glass Co. The small amber tank at Muncie has been in blast for several weeks. Executive Member Martin Joyce, John F. Tobin, Ora Edwards, and others are again to be found at the above plant. John Cramer, proprietor of the Muncie Mold Works since 1904, reports an exceedingly busy fall trade following a satisfactory business during the summer months. "This season promises to be fully as good as last and that will be entirely satisfactory to me," remarked Mr. Cramer. Machine molds are demanding much attention in this shop at present, where Harry Bowman is still among the artists. The Hemingray Glass Co., of Muncie, Ind., are operating two tanks, double shift, on insulators. One of these was started early in September and the other was placed in blast this month. Manager J. C. Gray reports favorable trade prospects. Wm. Finan is again on this company's payroll. His place of business was closed by the local optionists. J. R. Barclay and W. I. Monaghan, proprietors of the Indiana Mold Works, Muncie, say they are rushed with orders and employ four men, including apprentices. Many machine molds were turned out here of late. Another lathe has been installed an it looks as if there will soon be need for a large shop. The firm is now a little over a year old. C. W. Smailey, the Dunkirk, Ind., banker who is interested in window glass manufacturing institutions at Fairmount, W. Va., Sandusky, and Maumee, O., informed the writer that excellent results are obtained at these respective enterprises. At the Enterprise Glass Co.'s works, Sandusky, the large 30-blower tank is being operated with hand shops. The two small tanks are being replaced by a 48-blower tank, which is to be equipped with mechanical window glass producers. Olean machine operators now employed in the Buckeye State have informed the writer that the Olean Glass Co. will in all probability start the whole or part of their plant by Oct. 25. · · |
