Last Friday, between three and four o'clock, the pottery of Wm Brunt, Jr. & Co. was visited by what might have been, but for the promptness of the fire department, a most disastrous fire. We were piloted to the scene of the disaster by the genial manager Mr. Louthan, and found the damage larger than at first reported. The fire began in the kiln sheds where seggars were being dried. It was caused by the gas coming on strong which soon started the mischief. The sheds are enclosed on three sides by the large press and warerooms and for a time endangered them. Many green and dry seggars were destroyed, by both fire and water, and the building badly wrecked. The loss is from $2,000 to $3,000, and will prevent their starting up as soon as was intended.
