AN INCREASE DEMANDED.

Carrying In Boys at Hemingray's

Have Been Out Since Saturday.

Effort of a Committee Appointed at a

Meeting This Afternoon, to Effect a

Settlement, Proved Unsuccessful — Boys

Remain Out.

Saturday evening, the carrying in boys at the Hemingray glass works, made a demand for an increase of wages. The company refused and the boys are still out. A committee called at the office this afternoon to effect a settlement, but it proved of no avail.

The boys who went out, comprise the entire force on one shift and it is probable that a portion of the factory will be idle, for a short time. The demand was made Saturday evening and was met by direct refusal on the part of the managers.

The boys assembled near the factory this morning and it was reported that they were interfering with the other boys going to work. A patrol man made an investigation and it is said that there had been no interference.

The youthful strikers appear determined to hold out, and were anxious to make another demand this afternoon. Before 1 o'clock they assembled and a meeting was the result. A committee was appointed and another unsuccessful attempt was made.   Hemingray would not make a statement concerning the boys. They have declared their intentions of remaining out.
