Muncie, IN, United States

The Anderson Herald has this to say about two manufacturing establishments that Muncie at least has some knowledge of. Mr. Hemminger [sic] Hemingray, president of the Hemminger [sic] Hemingray Glass Works of Covington, Ky., and in answer to a telegram from him, Jerome Allen of the Greencastle Nail and Iron Works, arrived last night. The two gentlemen have been busying themselves all day in looking about the city, and are very favorably impressed with the locations offered by the Board of Trade. The location proposed for the glass works is at the intersection of the Bee Line and the Midland railroads in the Southwestern part of the city and for the nail and iron works is six acres of land on the Jackson farm, immediately along the Cincinnati, Wabash and Michigan Railroad track. Mr. Hemminger [sic] Hemingray has completed a thorough analysis of the glass sand found near this city, and pronounces it of a better quality than any that he has before seen, either in Europe or America. It is especially calculated for making fine plate glass, and an abundance of it exists here. The Covington Works employ 450 men.
