MR. M'ABEE IS NO
LONGER INSPECTOR
Muncie Man Deposed from
Office by Governor.
MR. BLAKELY IS NAMED
The Expected Announcement Was
Made by Governor Hanly This
Morning.
The expected announcement of the appointment of William Blakely, of Shelbyville, to be state factory inspector in place of D. H. McAbee, of Muncie, was made this morning by Governor Manly. The rumor that Mr. McAbee would be replaced by Blakely has been in circulation for several months, but Governor Manly has been fearful of announcing Mr. McAbee's retirement because of the numerous petitions of Civil war veterans and union labor men asking that the Muncie man be retained.
The appointment of Blakely is for political reasons only, there being no question as to Mr. McAbee's efficiency. According to common report, however, Mr. McAbee has not been as loyal to Governor Manly’s personal machine in the State as he might have been, or at least he has not been active in its behalf.
Harve Richards, of Muncie, a deputy factory inspector, also may be thrown out of office as he was one of Mr. McAbee's appointees, bur this is not certain.
Mr. McAbee was appointed soon after the acts of 1897 became effective and has been reappointed every two years since. The salary is $1,500 a year and that of each deputy inspector is $1,000.
Mr. McAbee was prominent in union labor circles here before his appointment as inspector.
