A "BURGOO" FEAST.
The Hemingray Glass Works the Scene
Of an Enjoyable Event.
Saturday night a number of well known gentlemen wended their way to the Hemingray glass works east of the city. They were the invited guests to a grand feast given by Messrs. Robt. and Dan Hemingray. The feast consisted of "Burgoo," a palatable dish made of a mixture of meat and vegetables. The "Burgoo" was made by Thos. Jenkins, assisted by Colonel H. D. Shinkle of Covington, Ky., and was heartily enjoyed. The ingredients consisted of twelve chickens, three squirrels, three quarts of shrimps, one-half bushel of potatoes, one-fourth bushel of tomatoes, and enough bacon to flavor the whole.
The "Burgoo" was faultlessly cooked and disappeared like snow under a warm sun when the guests began to stow it away. The feast was washed down by plenty of good, sparkling water, after which Col. Shinkle was selected as Toastmaster. He called on Judge Shipley, who responded in his usual happy manner. His remarks made his auditors feel that life was worth living. Robert Hemingray was next on the list. This jolly face was wreathed in smiles rendered a beautiful vocal solo.
Toast-master Shinkle was also invited to speak. The Colonel was in speaking mood and the eloquent works that fell from his lips elicited prolonged applause.
The guests were Messrs. James G. H. Gill, Charles Wilcoxon, Frank Miller, Harry Wysor, Arthur Kelly, Skip Beemer, Isaac Humphreys, George Edgeley, Thos. Jenkins, Dr. Smith, Judge Carlton Shipley, Colonel Shinkle, and many others.
