Closing of the Glass Factories For the

Season Will Occur on Saturday --

2,000 People Employed.

On next Saturday the glass factories all over the country will close down for the summer season. There are in Muncie seven glass factories, working in the aggregate two thousand people. The annual shut down will lay off during the months of July and August about 1,600 of these people. The Muncie glass industries and the number of hands they employ are as follows:

Ball Brothers, 1,000 hands; of this number about three hundred, who are in the stamping department, will be retained during the closing season.

Muncie Glass company, 250 hands. All of the employes at this factory will be off during the season except a few who will be retained to assist in resetting the pots and making the annual repairs.

The Maring-Hart window glass factory, 200 hands; all off during the season.

Hemingrays' window glass works, 150 hands; all off for the season.

Over's glass works, 125 hands; all off during the shut down.

Nelson Glass works, 125 hands; all off during the closing season.

Many of the employes of these glass houses spend their summers away from home, some visiting relatives and friends, while others seek enjoyment systematically, going to watering places or to rural retreats where they can find rest to recuperate for next season's work. Many will spend part of their vacation at the World's Fair. Others remain in Muncie with their families, feeling that they cannot stand the expense of a season away from home.
