With few exceptions all of the manufacturing industries in Muncie are running. The majority of them are not running full capacity, and some of them not one half of the regular force. But they are giving employment to as many people as possible under existing circumstances and the aggregate number employed is over 2,800. Of this number many of them are skilled mechanics, drawing big salaries. The following is a list of the various industries and the people now employed in each as secured through the offices of the factories:

M. Ball, washing machine factory, 15; Kelley - Metz Hominy mill, 15; J. H. Smith & Co., 50; Muncie Foundry and Machine shops, 25; Midland Steel works, 825; Indiana Bridge works, 75; Pulp mill, 100; Common Sense Engine Company, 25; Muncie Coil Hoop factory, 25; Architectural Iron works, 75; Bell Stove works, 50; Muncie Glass Company, 150; Boyer & Kendall Carriage works, 25; Muncie Muck Bar Company Iron mill, 70; White River Iron and Steel works, 160; Port Glass works, 50; Ball Bros. Glass Works, 300; C. H. Over's Glass works, 125; Muncie Skewer works and Johnson's saw mill, 125; Gill Bros. Glass pot factory, 25; Indiana Iron works, 400.

In addition to the above-named industries there are several small factories not mentioned, employing in the aggregate two to three hundred people, making a total of about 3,000 hands.
