HEAVY PATROL WAGON

Completely Exhausted Horse at a Run

This Morning.

Heavy wagon Filled with Policemen

Drawn Three Miles by One Horse — Interview

With Police Commissioner Who

Offers Suggestions.

This morning's run to the fire at Hemingray's Glass factory by the patrol wagon showed the necessity of having two horses to the patrol wagon, or at least have one good horse. The distance traveled this morning by the heavy wagon with one horse, in which were four patrolmen, was at least three miles and before half the distance had been traveled the horse was completely fagged out. A house could burn down, furniture all be stolen and the thieves safely in some other county before the arrival of the police.

In a talk with one of the police commissioners this morning, he stated "that the city paid $30 per month for the use of a horse, and taken in consideration the good streets of Muncie, one good horse would be sufficient; but that any old worn out plug was good enough for the use of the city, at least that is what is being furnished them. He stated that if they would furnish a good horse that would be no necessity of using two horses to the patrol wagon." Some steps should be taken by the commissioners to remedy the trouble.
