New Telegraph Lines and Extensions in Oregon.

ALBANY, OREGON, Nov. 18.

TO THE EDITOR OF TELEGRAPHER.

THE Daily Oregonian, published at Portland, Oregon, states that "Hillery Butler has received a contract to erect poles and stretch the wire along the line of the railroad, as far as now built, from Kalama to Tenino. He has been engaged on his contract during the last two weeks and will likely finish in a week or two more. The company's wire stretches along the top of the poles, and the wire of the Western Union Telegraph Company is being changed to the same route, and placed just below that of the railroad company."

The line referred to in the above is along the line of the Northern Pacific Railroad, Pacific division. The distance from Tenino, a new town at the terminus of the road to Kalama, is sixty-five miles. When this line is completed there only remains a gap of twenty-two miles between the Columbia River and Puget Sound to be completed, to have continuous railroad communication between river and sound.

The Puget Sound Telegraph line is nearly completed from Seattle to Port Townsend, via Freeport, Port Blakely, Port Madison, Port Gamble and Port Ludlow, and will be ready for business in less than a month. A cable is to be used on this line manufactured by the Electrical Construction and Maintenance Co. of San Francisco.
