The Hemingray Glass Company

FUEL IS A SUCCESS
Switch from Natural Gas Wil be
made by Other Muncie Manufacturers
— Ball Brothers to Operate
Factory With the Same Fuel Soon —
Past Experimental Stage.
The first demonstration of artificial gas being manufactured for the purpose of operating a glass factory can be at the Hemingray works, this city. There is one coal tank in operation and six shops are being operated day and night from the fuel manufactured by it. The system is new and is quite successful. The switching from natural gas, as fuel, has been made quietly, and the effort is no more an experiment but a reality. The quantity of coal required to manufacture sufficient gas to operate the portion of the plant is much less than anticipated in the start; consequently the venture is more of success.
The system will probably be utilized throughout the factory. The workmen claim that the heat is regular and steady, and that the very best grade of glass is easily blown by its use. The change is an important one and will probably be followed by other manufacturers here. One other firm, Ball Brothers, is preparing for its manufacture, and artificial gas will be manufactured there, probably next week. The factory for its manufacture is almost complete and when this is finished the department to be furnished with this fuel will be put into operation.
