A COVINGTON BOY IN

INDIANA

"Look Out For Claude Matthews

in '92"

In an interview in the New York Continent with an Indianaian of prominence and station, the following complimentary and deserved notice of Hon. Claude Matthews appears.

"Nothing is more uncertain in politics than a 'sure thing." Mr. Cleveland and hsi friends believes that he has a 'sure thing' in 1892. From present indications that is true, but with the Farmers' Alliance, silver and other thiings coming up the situation is likely to undergo a radical change. One thing is reasonably clear to day, and that is that Mr. Cleveland will have to modify his views on silver before he can get the nomination. I may say also, that the Democracy of the West are getting tired of always running an Eastern man for President. They think it is about time to turn about and give a Western man a chance. If the Farmers' Alliance make as much progress within the nect two years as it bids fait to do now, tha chances are more than even that the Democrats will nominate a Western man in 1892. Calude Matthews, the present Secretary of the State of Indiana, possesses many elements of strength. He is not much know [sic] known outside of his own State, but he is large enough and broad enough to spread over the whole country. He is a man of culture and wealth, an ideal farmer and a simon pure Democrat. Look out for Claude Matthews in 1892."

Mr. Matthews is a Covington boy son of the late Major T. A. Matthews, and brother to Miss Lida Matthews and Mrs. Ralph Hemingray. He has attained high position in Indiana and to day is one of the leaders of the party. Stranger thinigs have happened than what the Continent outlines. If they happen to Mr. Matthews the honors would be worthily bestowed and withily worn.
