PRIZE FIGHT.

Black and White Indulge in a Fistic

Battle.

Three Bloody Rounds.

Yesterday afternoon, Jack White, white, and Billy Black, colored, indulged in a little difference of opinion, and agreed to settle it in the ring under Marquis of Queensbury rules. At about three o'clock they, together with a few sports, went out by Hemingray's glass works, where a purse of $14.25 was made up and a ring hurriedly pitched, and the young pugilists began to fight.

White weighed 118 pounds and Black 128. Black had all the best of the white man in both height and reach. Their hatred was too deep to let gloves come between them so bare knuckles were used.

In the first round — Black gave the white boy a smash on the jaw that sent him to the earth with a dull, sickening thud. In this round the "coon" had all the best of it.

In the second round — The negro went for the little Irishman like a streak of blue lightning. White went down twice.

In the third round — The white boy awoke up and went after the "coon" with blood in his eye (or all over his face) and drew first blood. White had all the best of it this round, but went to mother earth for the fourth time from a wicked smash on the nose.

At the end of the third round both contestants showed much punishment and were glad to call the fight a draw. The purse of $14.25 was divided, and the differences of Black and White still remain at a standstill. The gay cavalcade of sports returned to town and prize fight talk is galore.

The fight, to say the least, was a most brutal affair.
