It is reported that the Ellenville Savings Bank has begun proceedings to foreclose its mortgage on the Ellenville glass works, and the sheriff has advertised the personal property for sale to satisfy judgements. Commenting on the condition of affairs, the Newburgh, N. Y., Register says: "It is well for Newburghers that President E. T. Skidmore, of the board of trade, counselled consideration and deliberation in regard to the Ellenville glass works, which desired to locate its plant here a few years ago. It wanted to abandon Ellenville at that time, owing to poor facilities for handling the product and the great expense of getting material on the ground. However, it came under the class of industries that desired a bonus for coming here, and it was a pretty stiff bonus, too. There were gentlemen present at one of the executive sessions who favored doing what could be done to bring the glass works here. Mr. Skidmore knew what the old Ellenville glass works were, however, and he counselled delay to find out what there was of the company, and why it desired to leave Ellenville. The delay revealed facts that to the more conservative and thoughtful gentlemen present did not warrant them in doing much recommending, and the matter was dropped."
