THE CHARITY BALL.

A BRILLIANT SOCIAL EVENT AND

A GRATIFYING

Success – Splendid Music and

Beautiful Costumes – The Club Cleared

About $150.00.

Amidst scenes of gayety and brilliancy charity extended an open hand to the poor of Muncie at Anthony Hall last evening.   Charity donned her richest robes and in fancy wrapped her cloak about the poor and distressed, giving comfort and sustenance to the starving and warmth to the many chilled by the cold of misery and affliction. Wealth and contentment clasped hands with poverty and sorrow and a generous deed was done. The elite of Muncie’s bon-ton society were there, and with hearts attuned to the strains of beautiful music, furnished by Hart’s orchestra of Indianapolis, they danced the hours away.

The occasion was the charity ball given by the Samovar club, which is composed of the following young ladies: The Misses Blanche Shipley, Edna Streeter, Jean Smith, Nellie Wilson, Winifred Brady, Grace Riley, Louise Kirby, Suzette Kirby, Sarah Heinsohn and Bessie Williams.

The reception committee consisted of the members of the club and the Mesdames C. M. Rich, T. K. Heinsohn, J. E. Ethell, F. C. Ball, C. O. Prutzman, W. B. Thomas and W. C. Sampson.

Floor managers, Gregory F. McCulloch, Geo. O. Cromwell, O. F. Raymond, C. H. Anthony, Homer E. Bowles and Payton R. Janney.

The following ladles were patronesses of the ball: Mesdames J. R. Sprankle, W. R. Maddy, Geo. Kirby, J. M. Kirby, J. A. Heinsohn, Geo. F. McCulloch, C. H. Anthony, W. L. Little, C. E. Shipley, James L. Streeter, M. C. Smith, Kate H. Wilson, Geo. O. Cromwell, and Miss Lizzie Willard.

Without the weather was cold and the atmosphere moist and murky. But within there was a dazzling splendor of costume and a bewildering tangle of colors and shades.

At 9 o'clock a burst of music from the orchestra announced the first number on the program, and the dancers took up the grand march, which was led by Mr. P. B. Janney and Miss Bessie Kirby. The scene when the ball opened, with its glitter of costume and raptors of music, was one beautiful to look upon. The windings and mazes, the graceful gildings and gyrations of the dancers, with the shifting shades, the beaming eyes and faces wreathed in happy smiles, made it a charming opening to an important social event in metropolitan Muncie.

Supper was served in the rooms of the Muncie Business College adjoining the hall room, by caterer Hummel, end every detail was so well arranged and carried out as to make the affair a complete success and reflect great credit upon the young ladies who managed it throughout.

The total receipts of the ball were something near $250 and after paying all expenses the club will have about $150 left for charity.
