Property Owners Don't Want to Pave

This Spring.

A Portion of Washington Street to be Made

Clear of Horses and Vehicles - Doings of

The City Council.

At a meeting of the City Council last night, remonstrances against the proposed street paving, were made by citizens who resided on Washington and High streets. The citizens said the streets were in good and they were not wealthy enough to stand the extra expense. The remonstrances were referred to the Committees on finance and streets and alleys.

City Attorney Warner presented an ordinance for the issuance of bonds to the amount of $3,944.61 to settle for city improvements. The ordinance passed.

For some time wagons of all kinds, some loaded with hay and some empty, have been left on Washington street between Walnut and Mulberry. Many days has the street been almost blockaded by horses and vehicles and the citizens protested against it last night. They said the street was made filthy and City Engineer Wood was instructed to have it cleaned and arrest all persons who hitch their teams there in the future.
