THAT AWFUL STRIKE,

Girls Merely Discharged Because They

Wanted Higher Wages.

This morning a HERALD man called at the office of the Hemingray's Glass company and made inquiry in reference to the rumor that the girls employed in the grinding department had gone on strike. R. J. Hemingray stated that it was not what the evening paper made it out to be. He said that upon his arrival at the office Monday morning he noticed eight of the girls standing outside of the office and when asked why they were not at work they said that they wanted higher wages. He asked them why they did not ask for what they wanted instead of acting in such a manner. They intimated that they would not return to work at the former wages when Mr. Hemingray told them that they were discharged and they peaceably departed from the mill.

He says that their places are practically filled at the regular wages and that no trouble is expected.
