ONE DEPARTMENT CLOSED.

Fruit Jar Business Stopped at

Hemingray's as a Result of the Strike.

The strike of boys at Hemingray's glass works has resulted in the fruit jar department of that industry being shut down several weeks prior to what it would have been had there been no strike. Altogether twenty-six boys struck and most of them were in the fruit jar department. The company decided not to grant the demand of the strikers which was an increase of wages from 60 cents to 75 cents a day and seeing that the strikers were not disposed to give in, closed the department Saturday, whereas it was the company's intention had there been no trouble, not to close for several weeks.
