GLASS CONCERNS IN DEAL. Owens-Illinois to Buy Assets and Business of Hemingray.
TOLEDO, Ohio, May 3 (AP). - The Owens-Illinois Glass Company announced today that it had contracted to buy the entire assets and business of the Hemingray Glass Company of Muncie, Ind., manufacturer of glass insulators, and also to buy substantially all the assets of the O'Neill Machine Company of this city. It was understood the deals represented more than $500,000 in commitments. Owens-Illinois Glass obtained a dealers' license from the State division of securities Tuesday, which, it is assumed, indicates that it will pay in part for the purchases with its own shares or debentures. The O'Neill Machine Company, which for many years has been a big factor in the production of glass-working machinery, also registered $200,000 of 7 per cent cumulative preferred stock and 1,000 shares of Class B stock to sell at $20 a share with the division of securities on Tuesday. |
