ANNUAL CONFERENCE
IS NOW IN PROGRESS
Between Manufacturers and
Glass Pressers.
ADVANCE FOR THE GREENS
A conference, looking to the adjustment of the wage scale for the ensuing fire in union fruit jar factories using blowing machines, was begun in Union Labor Hall Wednesday night between the manufacturers, represented by Edward and Frank Ball, of Muncie, and J. Wood Wilson, of Marion, and the pressers represented by John Tobin, of Marion, and Joseph Cahill, Michael Menard, August Naibok, Charles Smith, Martin Joyce and John Clark, of Muncie. The conference will continue Thursday and perhaps longer.
The workmen submitted their proposition on rules and regulations and later the wage scale will be adjusted. Men from both sides said after Thursday night’s meeting that there will be no difficulty in reaching an agreement. The men will probably secure an advance, it is said. There has never been any controversy in settling the scale.
The scale for the Green Bottle Blowers has been settled at Atlantic City, the men getting an increase of eight per cent on the net list, which is a restoration of the prices in force prior to 1893. The agreement will take effect September 1. The factories affected in Muncie are Port's fruit jar works and a part of Hemingray’s and the Boldt works.
