BOY ASSAULTED BY

JUVENILE STRIKERS

He Would Not Agree to Quit

Work.

A committee of the striking carrying-out and sticking-up boys at the Hemingray factory called at the Star office Wednesday evening and made a statement of their side of the controversy. They say they asked for an increase in wages which would equal that paid by Ball Brothers to their boys. This is from 20 cents to 27 1/2 cents per day. They say that Mr. Hemingray promised them they would be increased to meet this raise of Ball Brothers and with this understanding they returned to work. When the notice of the increase was posted it called for an advance all around of 10 cents per day. They then struck and have been out since.

Wednesday three of the strikers returned to work on the day shift. They were not molested at the time when they walked out to go home after the turn went off they were accosted by the strikers and asked to sign an agreement to stay out. Two of the three agreed to do so but Willie Hickenbottom refused and was assaulted by some of the boys. He was considerably used up and it is probable that he will not return to work Thursday.
