Only Remaining Factory of American

Window Glass Company Closed

Down Today.

MUNCIE, IND., Dec. 3. - The only remaining factory of the American Window Glass company in Muncie shut down today for an indefinite period because of a controversy with the Hemingray Glass company, which deprived the American company of gas to operate its plant. The 400 workmen employed in the plant will be transferred at once to plants in other cities and the city will lose more than 1,000 inhabitants. Factory No. 11 in Muncie has been closed for a year because of a scarcity of gas and workmen. The gas supply of the American factory and the Hemingray bottle factory is owned jointly by the two companies. There was not gas enough to operate both plants and the combine failed to agree on a division of the supply. Three officers of the American company say they may open both plants in the future, but they will be idle this year.
