THIS IS THE WAY HE BEGAN LIFE
JOHN C. GRAY, AS A CARRYING-IN BOY.
John C. Gray, manager of Hemingray's glass factory, started in the work about thirty-six years ago as a carrying-in boy. Since then he has been in about every department in the factory. He went from the work of carrying-in to the tin shop. His rise in the work was rapid. When he went to work in the offices of the factory he was employed as an errand boy, and in short time was promoted to shipping clerk. From shipping clerk he passed through the other clerkships until he reached his present position. He has been in Muncie twelve years. When he entered the employ of the Hemingrays he was 13 years of age and was in Covington, Ky., from which place he went to the main offices in Cincinnati. Mr. Hemingray is a prominent member of Muncie Lodge of Elks. |
