Bradford Shinkle
was key organizer
The list of local organizers of the 1898 G.A.R. encampment included many influential Northern Kentuckians. One of the best known was Bradford Shinkle.
Shinkle was the son of business leader Amos Shinkle, who helped lead efforts to have the Suspension Bridge built after the Civil War.

Bradford Shinkle was born in Higginsport, Ohio, in 1845, and grew up in Covington. As a young man he served as adjutant of a Covington Home Guard unit organized by his father.
He became a successful banker and businessman and served as president of the Covington Protestant Children's Home. he died in May 1909.
