CABMAN HURT IN COLLISION.

Lies on Sidewalk an Hour Before

Ambulance Arrives.

Robert Hemmingray, 721 North Illinois street, a cabman for the Beck livery stables, was injured at Meridian and Ohio streets in a collision early this morning with an automobile from the Horace F. Wood garage, driven by D. F. Faussett, 1218 East Tenth street. Hemmingray was compelled to lie in the rain on the sidewalk for an hour because the City Dispensary ambulance could not be put in service after a piece of the harness broke.

According to witnesses, Faussett was driving his machine south on Meridian street when he approached the Ohio street crossing. Hemmingray was driving east on Ohio street. The light on Hemingray's cab was not lighted, it is said, and Faussett failed to see the approaching cab until it was too late to avoid a collision. Hemmingray was thrown from his seat. He struck the pavement heavily and was rendered unconscious. His injuries are not believed to be serious. Bicyclemen Todd and Englebright and Patrolmen Tomlinson and Johnson, who investigated, made no arrests. Hemmingray was taken to the City Hospital in the hospital ambulance after it was found that the dispensary ambulance could not be put in service.
