INVESTIGATION HAS

BEEN ORDERED

SAN FRANCISCO, December 1. - Owing to the charges which have been preferred by J. E. Locke, proprietor of the Knickerbocker Hotel, to the effect that Robert Hemmingray [sic] Hemingray, the horseman, and his brother, facilitated the suicide of the former's wife by suggestion and by leaving the weapon with which she killed herself where she could find it. Dr. Leland, the Coroner, has ordered a thorough investigation of the case. An inquest will be held at once.

Robert Hemmingray [sic] Hemingray admitted to the Coroner this afternoon that the young woman who killed herself on Saturday night, and with whom he had been living for several months, was not his wife.

Her name, he says, is Miss Carlotta Campiglio, of Cincinnati. The dead woman is the daughter of a well-known Italian family.
