GREEN GLASS NEWS · · Doing Well at the Bushwick. BROOKLYN, N.Y., Jan 18. — At the Bushwick factory, on Grand street, they are operating three of their four furnaces and are doing well, with apparently good prospects, as they are working on orders right along. The third furnace was put on last Tuesday two weeks, and the greater portion of the men employed in it are late of A. J. Hagerty's, including their former manager, Frank S. Tomlin, who is also working here. All employed at the furnace are from Hagerty's except four, and all seem to be getting along nicely, even though they did start a little late. There is not much prospect of A. J. Hagerty's running this season, or in fact, soon, unless some one else takes hold of it, as Mr. Hagerty will hardly operate it. There is really only one of them living now, and he does not seem anxious to embark in the glass business alone since his brother died, near the close of last season's work. It may be likely that some other company will take hold of the place, as it was well established. The firm of Hagerty being well known and had operated successfully for years. The plant had two furnaces and is quite well equipped, and could no doubt be operated to the same advantage as in days gone by. Many of the old men from Hagerty's have gone somewhere to work, and there are not many around here now. |
