News of Xmas Closing.

 

The observance of Christmas in the city was never more extensive than this year. Factory and mill, shop and store is closed and the several thousand men who are daily employed are with friends or relatives today. The Christmas holidays is the banner and most enjoyous one of the entire year.

This morning the post office closed at 10 o'clock. The first delivery of mail was made this morning. This closed the business for the day.

The stores are closed for the day as are the numerous business establishments throughout the city and the entire day is being given up to the joys of Christmas.

Workmen who did not have the pleasure of spending the Thanksgiving holiday at home, and those that did are enjoying Christmas with their families today. Although the industries are busy at work and some have orders that have long been delayed are closed for a day. The following is a list of the factories that are closed and the length of their closing:

The Muncie Pulp Company closed for today only.

Ball Brothers' Glass Works closed down this morning and will remain closed until Thursday morning in all departments.

The mills of the Republic Iron & Steel Company were closed Tuesday evening and will resume with the day turn Thursday morning.

The Whiteley Malleable Casting Company closed for today only.

The Indiana Bridge Company closed this morning and remained closed for the day.

The Maring-Hart Window Glass Company are closed for the day.

The Hemingray Glass factory closed this morning till Thursday morning.

The Boldt Glass works will close for today only.

Gill Brothers' Pot factory is closed for the day.

Consumers Paper Company are closed for today.

The Anchor and Ontario silver plating Company closed Monday morning as the busy season has closed and will remain closed for a week and probably longer.

Smiths Bending Works are closed for the day.

Meeks' Handle Factory closed this morning and will resume Monday morning.

The American Rolling Mill closed Saturday night and will resume in the morning.

The Muncie Wheel Company, Kittselmann Brothers' Wire Fence factory, Muncie Casket Company and the Muncie Underwear Company observed Christmas by closing their plants this morning but will resume tomorrow morning.

It is estimated that $125,000 have been paid to Muncie workman [sic] workmen since last Saturday night and some of the mills have been so generous as to allow their employes to draw enough money necesssary [sic] necessary for their Christmas expenditures.

A turkey was presented to men of families lost [sic] last evening by many of their employes [sic] employers.
