BUSY IN BROOKLYN.

Trade is in Good Condition and Orders Plenty.

BROOKLYN, N.Y., Oct. 6 — All quiet along the line in this section, so far as green glass business is concerned. Notwithstanding some of the small day tanks are in operation, their trade being confined to demijohns and beer bottles. We hope that these manufacturers may during the general shut-down, be enabled to procure large orders, and that they may carry them through the season. They have complied with the union's conditions and are running on a good square basis.

Since writing the above we have learned that the Bushwick Glass Co. has sent for the committee of blowers of that works and expressed their willingness to begin at once upon the basis of last year which was 10 percent off the list. We do not know what the result may be from the fact the Alton convention demanded an advantage of 7 per cent for the coming blast. Although it might be wise to accept the past arrangement and settle further trouble. However, there may be something done in your neighborhood in a short time which may determine the relations between the manufacturers and green blowers.

The flints of this city, so far as I can learn, are driving ahead with their usual rapidity.

In speaking of the 5 per cent advance brought about at Alton convention during the summer, reminds me of a little conversation I overheard a day or two ago, in which two green bottle blowers were engaged. One wanted to know what a 5 per cent advance meant, when the convention, by a majority vote, reduced the price of demijohns 10 per cent additional, making a clean cut of 20 per cent on the ware they did not make, and in all probability cannot make. Of this we cannot vouch, but it savors of the same. They may be right about the demand for 5 per cent on the list. Now, we ask, what is meant by this? Does not the demijohn blower earn his money? Are there any workers in the trade in which the ware and tare is so severe as the man blowing this class of work? We fail to understand what it means and simply say, Outrage!, Outrage! — Ray.
