City Given Verdict

For Large Amount

Jury in Judge Tracy’s court, late Friday, returned a verdict for the plaintiff, Covington, against the Bradford Shinkle estate, rep­ resented by Mary H. Shinkle. Suit was for collection of alleged back taxes for five years, amounting in all approximately to $140,000.

City claims Bradford Shinkle was a resident of the city at the time of his death and should have paid his personal taxes here, which the defendants deny. Special counsel employed to repre­sent the city are former City So­licitor Stephens L. Blakely and John H. Klette.

Motion and grounds for a new trial were filed Friday by attor­neys for the defendant.
