HEART ATTACK FATAL TO DOCTOR Dr. Frank Cross Was Official of Insurance Company. HAD MANY ATTACKS Life-Saving Squad Called, but death Preceded It.

Dr. Frank B. Cross, 66, secretary of the faculty of the College of Medicine of the University of Cincinnati and for thirty-five years medical director of the Columbia Life Insurance Company, died of a heart attack at his home, 2709 Johnstone Place, Monday. During the past few years Dr. Cross had suffered sixteen serious heart attacks and his many medical friends marveled that he had survived so many of them. The life saving squad responded to a call to his home early Monday, but death had preceded them. Dr. Cross was the son of Dr. Felix G. Cross and Adelaide Bradley Cross and was born in the National Soldiers' Home, Montgomery County, O., August 25, 1871. He attended Woodward High School and Franklin Institute, studied medicine and was graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1895. For two years as pre-medical student and four years as medical student he played on the noted football team at U. C., that included many members who became prominent in Cincinnati's professional and business life. STUDIED ABROAD After his graduation, Dr. Cross studied in London, Vienna, Berlin, and Freiburg. For two years he was Opthalmological Hospital, London. Specializing in affliction of the eye Dr. Cross became assistant professor of ophthalmology at the Medical College here and since 1915 served as secretary of the college faculty. Dr. Cross had also served in his youth as intern in the Manhattan, N.Y., Eye and Ear Hospital. He was long a member of the American Medical Association, Ohio State Medical Association, Cincinnati Academy of Medicine, American College of surgeons, Queen City Club, Cincinnati Country Club, and many other organizations, and was a Mason and member of the Episcopal Church. For years he served as associate editor of the Cincinnati Journal of Medicine. DRAFT EXAMINER During the World War Dr. Cross was examiner of the First Draft Board; was examining officer for all applying for officers' commission in this district and served at Camp Taylor, Ky., qualifying as medical commanding officer. After the Armistice he was president of the Disability Board of Medical Officers and supervised reconstruction work. Dr. Cross is survived by his widow, who was Miss Josephine Thrall and by a son, Frank B. Cross, Jr., president of the Columbia Life Insurance Company, and a grandson, Frank B. Cross III. Dr. Cross' brother Sumner M. Cross, former president of the Columbia Life Insurance Company, died November 30. Funeral arrangements have been tentatively arranged to be held Wednesday at the residence. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery. |
