THE proprietors of the Hemingray Glass Works commenced to bore, in the rear of their building, for natural gas. They struck a small vein yesterday at the depth of 150 feet. The gas came hissing up, and when a match was applied a blaze shot up several feet, and continued to burn till the well was stopped up. It gave a reddish flame, not quite as brilliant as the manufactured gas. Work will be continued until the depth of about 1,200 feet is reached, when it is expected that the gas will be struck in inexhaustible quantities. The proprietors expect this gas to take the place of fuel, and also to light the entire building. The depth of 200 feet was reached this morning. John Seiler's brewery, formerly Lang & Knoll's, is now entirely lighted with natural gas. A few years ago, while boring for water, they stuck gas at the depth of 450 feet, and have been using it ever since for illumination purposes.
