A TEST was made yesterday afternoon at the Hemingray glass-works of the Hayward Hand Grenade Fire-Extinguisher. A frame or pine was fully ten feet high, and thoroughly covered with tar and then saturated with coal oil and set on fire. Of course it blazed up in an instant, but the agent, Mr. Schneider, waited a few seconds and then threw one of the grenades into the fire, and almost as quick as the fire was started it was extinguished sufficiently to be under control. The fluid in the bottles does not contain anything that will injure the clothes or the hands, as the grenade was opened before the fire and the fluid poured by Mr. Schneider on his hands and clothes. A number of citizens witnessed the test and seemed perfectly satisfied that as an extinguisher the Hayward Hand Grenade is a success.
