CUPID IS FOILED FOR TIME BEING David Cusick and Miss Sue Hemingray Refused License to Wed. MOTHER PLEADS BUT ALL IN VAIN Polo Player and Society Girl Find Trouble in Being Wedded, but Claim They Will Yet Succeed — Mother Left City Without Daughter After Ineffectual Pleading.
Twice today had David Cusick been refused a marriage license to wed Miss Sue Hemingray, although it is thought that ere the day passes the young man will succeed in his efforts to secure the necessary paper. The license was refused Mr. Cusick because of a request made by relatives of the intended bride. Mr. Cusick states that he will secure a license before 9 o'clock tonight if he is compelled to go to Kentucky. The little episode will come as a great surprise. Mr. Cusick was for three years goal tender on the Muncie polo team and hails from Fall River, Mass. He met Miss Hemingray and the two became quite intimate until now they are on the verge of entering into matrimony. Mr. Cusick is now goal tender on the Kokomo team of the Central League. Miss Hemingray is the daughter of Mrs. Anna Hemingray, and is very prominent in local society. For the last few months Miss Hemingray has been absent from this city in company with her mother. They were touring the country and came here about one week ago to visit Mrs. Hemingray's son. The mother left it is said, but the daughter refused, saying that she would remain in Muncie. Mr. Cusick arrived this morning and in company with "Bobby" Hart of the local polo team, went to the county clerk's office to obtain the license but was unsuccessful. Cusick said that the marriage was protested and after this was inquired into the license was refused. Lat this afternoon Cusick was again refused a license. He was accompanied to the clerk's office by Bert Scott. Miss Hemingray left presumably for Indianapolis at 12:40 but Cusick was here at a late hour. The determination of the couple practically assures that the marriage is but a matter of a few hours or days at least despite the objections of Mrs. Hemingray. |
