FIRE AT GLASS PLANT Two Fire Companies Called to Fight Flames — Some Good Work.
The plant of the Hemingray Glass company in Industry was seriously threatened by fire Sunday evening at 8 o'clock, but prompt and efficient work on the part of Nos. 2 and 3 fire companies prevented a serious conflagration. The fire was discovered in the office of the plant and is supposed to have started from a gas jet which ignited the woodwork. Upon arrival of No. 2 fire company the blaze was making good headway and Chief Casey, realizing imminent danger, summoned No. 3 company, but before the latter department arrived the flame had been extinguished. The office was damaged and some books were destroyed. The loss will probably be $400 which is covered by insurance. |
