STAR PORCELAIN CO. ADDS NEW LINE AND DOUBLES CAPACITY
East Trenton Concern Builds Large Addition, Including New Kiln.
The Star Porcelain Company, which is one of the two concerns in this city making porcelain electrical supplies, and whose plant is on Muirhead avenue, has recently found its business increased to such an extent as to necessitate the erection of buildings for the accommodation of machinery that will double the capacity of the works. The new structures were completed about a week ago and in honor of the commencement of operations in them the company gave its employes an outing. The principal addition to the plant is a building 142 feet in length, 80 feet in width and three stories in height. While primarily the new building is intended to relieve congestion in the original buildings of the plant brought about by a steady increase of business, another object which the company had in view in its erection was to provide for a new departure in its output - the manufacture of porcelain tubing. This the Star Company has never yet produced, but it is so essentially a part of recent advances in electrical supply equipment that the Trenton concern, anxious to be up-to-date in all its products, has decided to include it among the many other articles of electrical appliances which it produces. NEW KILN, TOO. Another addition to the Star Company's plant is a new kiln. It is built according to the most modern and approved methods and is one of the largest kilns of its kind in this part of the country. The company has added to its conveniences by having run into its plant a siding from the Pennsylvania Railroad, which will greatly facilitate the receiving of raw materials and the sending out of the finished products. The Star Company is a comparatively new concern, but the necessity for the increase of its facilities is a positive indication of its rapid advance in the commercial world. The officers of the company are Dr. Thomas H. Mackenzie, president; Dr. Charles F. Britton, treasurer; Herbert Sinclair, secretary and general manager. |
